That Edge: And Those Fucking Cunts
Mr. Square is happy.
Mr. Circle is happy.
Mr. Octagon wishes...
he had a bowie knife.
How are we today?
Better...better get a bucket.
Here you are:
(15 seconds is more than enough...)
1952... that was a while ago. A lot has changed since then, right?
When faced with a death sentence,
how will you choose to live out the rest of your days?
And what if you do not possess...
even a single beautiful memory of love?
This is the story of a lonely man...
faced with imminent death.
"But... I can't die. I'll just give up and die on them. I wan to, but... I can't die."
A petrified heart wandering...
in search of something.
But I'm not ready to die...
I WANT TO DO SOMETHING
THERE IS SOMETHING I MUST DO
"Even making these things is so much fun.
Why don't you try make something too?"
"It's too late."
WHAT CAN A HEART FILLED WITH DESPAIR
GRAB ON TO?
FRIVOLOUS HUMAN BEINGS WHO ONLY CONTEMPLATE
THE MEANING OF LIFE WHEN SUDDENLY FACED WITH DEATH
THE TRUTHS OF A LIFETIME
BRING OUT THE BEAUTY IN A PERSON
AND MOVE THE HEART
Emotions are universal while cultures make different triggers and we all go on and get "emotional" when it happens not when we are "supposed to".
ReplyDeleteWatching folks fight the feeling is a depressing reminder of how so full of shit most all of us are. A Dr, The President..no better than us...usually worse.
How did that happen?
How did we come all this way.....for this...is this it?
I was and am a HUGE Clint Eastwood fan because he is a National treasure. Leone twisted Yojimbo into the Spaghetti westerns that are.....they are more than what appears at first blush and that's a twist on Kurosawa's vision.
Kurosawa can "see"
"Watching folks fight the feeling..." all that conditioning. I've seen people appear virtually stone-faced despite expressing through gesture and words what is going on underneath. Japan trips me out that way. Then let it get dark and give people a little something to drink and the place turns into a happy madhouse. Old-school... or something.
DeleteMore importantly, the "Is this it?" question needs to be asked. Something's been happening long before I was even thought of and will continue long after I'm gone... that sense that something is happening is want to experience for as long as possible. If I weren't so full of it, it would probably be easier.
"Why'd we come all this way?" (Elfman)
"What's it all about?" (Caine)
"Something Like an Autobiography" (Kurosawa)
Just few of the voices in that mental file cabinet that helps stuff along. Tupac, Rollins... examples of people who have asked and continue to ask that question.
Is this it? I'm tempted to say we're on our way, headed in the right direction (as crazy as it sounds, despite all the mess). I'm also tempted to make the observation that life isn't easy, painless, or worry-free. Then I'd sound like I'm really full of it. Which, to borrow an expression from the Dirty H himself, is just 'swell'.
(Might need to bring an extra roll just in case)
still haven't watched Ikiru yet... must do so soon.
ReplyDeleteThese older movies get my attention despite not having explosions for heroes to run from... in s-l-o-w motion.
